my interpretation of no exit interrogated how surveillance interrupts intimacy as a form of hell. utilizing webcams and softwares such as Open broadcasting software and twitch, the creative team and i built an audience immersive environment inspired by reality tv and surveillance technology where the lines between audience and play were blurred.
the audience sat in one room while the actors entered another room one by one from the audience seating area. the two spaces were connected by a tv, with the door separating the two rooms opening at certain moments posing the question, “what do you do when the exit is offered to you?”. it was a compelling three week workshop that was driven by its self-imposed limitations and small team, creating something more impactful than we ever imagined.
